Cozy Home Office

It seems like nowadays lots of people are finding the need to set up a space to work from home. I’ve been working from home since March now, and I finally feel like I’m content with what I’ve come up with. I wanted to stick to a budget (actually re-assign stuff I already had in our home) to decorate my office space. So here we are… almost 6 months later and I think I finally love my cozy little office space.

Choose the right desk

I considered getting a corner or L-shaped desk, but with wanting to stick to a budget, I instead arranged my desk away from the wall and tucked an old bookcase along the wall. So this now gives me plenty of desk top space but also a place to store papers, files, etc. I will typically use more than one screen when I’m working from home, so this helps with enough space to spread out and not feel over cluttered. The desk is from Target linked here, chair is from Amazon linked here, and the book case is from Ross.

Play around with room space

If you’re typically having a lot of zoom meetings, then you want to be conscious of your background space. Of course you can opt for a virtual background, or you can create a real space that’s appropriate and not too distracting. Another reason I placed the desk away from the wall, was so that not only was my background mostly wall, but I was also able to look out onto the window and not catch the window reflection on my screens. I think it really depends on your job and your employer, but I don’t think you can go wrong with simple. I chose to put two of my own prints in the background, adds a little character, and I love my highland cow pics!

Add cozy details

After these months of working from home, I feel like one of the things I enjoy most about being at home, is that I can indeed feel and be cozy. Besides my work attire, I want to feel cozy and relaxed in the space I’m in, especially since I’m on my own literally all day while I’m at work, except for my beloved dog company. So for example I choose a soft cushion to put on my chair, a nice rug to have underneath my feet, and some nice lighting that isn’t office bright. The rug is from Amazon linked here and the bamboo diffuser is from Amazon linked here.

Liven up your space

I went with a more so black and white theme for most of my decor, again trying to keep it simple and clean. But there’s definitely character in my office. Things that I enjoy looking at, touches of office materials that are casual and cute, plants to give it a bit of green, and pictures of family and others that I’ve taken. And of course my friend Mr. Reed who I enjoy looking at every day (the monkey on the canvas). Basically have fun with your space, make it inviting for yourself, especially if this is as far as your going for work in your own home, it’s nice to have an area that’s separate from the rest of your home as well.

So there you have it! I’m sure I’ll probably end up changing something here or there soon enough, because let’s face it, I love to rearrange furniture and decor quite frequently. But for now I’m happy, I’m enjoying the space, and it’s made working from home a little bit better between all the chaos.
